Pie eating contest contestants

That’s why the Roseau Fall Harvest Festival earned a well-deserved finalist spot in the 2024 Cenex Hometown Throwdown, a giveback competition that honors the local festivals that make small towns shine. From colorful parades to corn mazes and pie-eating contests, Roseau’s festival proves that big heart beats in small-town celebrations.

A festival rooted in community

Held every September, the Fall Harvest Festival is more than just an event—it’s a beloved tradition that brings neighbors, families and friends together to celebrate the end of the growing season and the spirit of the region. From Main Street to the fairgrounds, the entire town transforms into a vibrant hub of activity. Local artisans sell handcrafted goods, live bands fill the air with music and the smell of kettle corn and BBQ wafts through the streets.

We have a lot of pride for Roseau. We also have a passion for preserving and remembering the history of Roseau. The Fall Harvest Festival is a chance for the community to come together, remember our roots, and celebrate the traditional that have shaped Roseau.

The festival’s events celebrate Roseau’s agricultural roots, Scandinavian heritage and community resilience. It’s a reflection of the people who call this northern Minnesota town home—hardworking, generous and proud of their traditions.

Why Roseau stood out in Hometown Throwdown

At Cenex, we believe local festivals like Roseau’s Fall Harvest Festival are the heartbeat of our communities. That’s why we created the Hometown Throwdown—to recognize the unique celebrations that define small towns and reward them with funding that helps festivals grow and thrive.

Roseau stood out from hundreds of entries thanks to its rich history, enthusiastic community involvement and the strong local partnerships that keep the festival going year after year. Whether it’s local co-ops stepping up to sponsor floats or volunteers organizing kids’ games and tractor pulls, Roseau embodies everything the Hometown Throwdown stands for.

At the wrap of their 2024 festival, Roseau community was already thinking about ways to make the 2025 festival bigger and better. New event stages, improved signage, expanded children’s activities—every dollar is going right back into the heart of the celebration.
